Carbonate Analysis for Cement & Limestone
Carbonate composition helps laboratories interpret mineral feedstocks, limestone additions and carbonate-derived CO₂.
Why knowing the carbonate percentage matters
Compare carbonate composition
Measure the carbonate fraction of suitable incoming minerals and cement samples to support composition checks and batch comparisons.
Inform process CO₂ estimates
Carbonates release CO₂ when calcined. Carbonate type, quantity and the fraction calcined contribute to process-emissions calculations.
Distinguish feedstock from additions
Carbonate entering a kiln and limestone blended into finished cement have different roles. Specify which stream you are testing and the reporting basis.
How to interpret your result
A calcimeter does not provide complete cement chemistry, strength or clinker mineralogy. CaCO₃-equivalent results must not be treated as mineral-specific emissions factors without composition data.
Agree the sample preparation, reporting units and moisture basis before testing. Ask whether your result will be reported as carbonate expressed as CaCO₃ equivalent, carbonate-derived CO₂ or another agreed quantity.
